“One of the principal issues of designing in the tropics is the discovery of a design language of lines, edges, meshs and shadow rather than an architecture of plan, volume, solid and void.
An unlearning process is involved, given the dominance of European architecture which forms the substance of the training of architects over the past 200 years ».

A good land must meet the standards of geomancy, four visible elements and one invisible :
1- In front of the house there must be a stream for purification (tiền đường).
2- In front of the house there must be a hill or a mount which serves as a protective screen wall against the intrusion of the evil spirit (tiền án).
3- Also in front of the house, on the right and on the left there must be a hill or a mound or a mountain which represents the dragon on the left and the tiger on the right, thus symbolizing that the land is in balance between 2 opposing forces the yin and the yang (tả long hữu hổ).
4- Behind the house there must be a mountain that serves as a support for the stability of the family, society or dynasty (hậu chấm).
- Another element detected by the geomantic compass is the veins of the green dragon.
