ARCHITECTURE & PLANNING VIETNAM
Mekong Delta
Agricultural Museum
Vinh Long, Vietnam
When traveling the main street of Vung Liem at the entry of the city (DT902), one suddenly discovers, almost opposite the Vo Van Kiet memorial and museum, an amazing and intriguing structure. At first sight it looks like a leaf placed on the ground in the middle of a welcoming natural landscape made of green area and water features.
This leaf with its elegant and slightly undulating veins is like a monumental
contemporary artwork perfectly integrated in its environment, with a
reasonable maximum height of 16.5 m, creating a unique attractive and
remarkable landmark while respecting the scale of its surroundings;
then, as it’s its vocation, by its suggestive shape, it’s both a tribute and
a celebration of this environment, the Mekong delta and its vast lands
dedicated to agriculture.
It’s the natural and amazing gate of the museum, an invitation for all
to enter and discover the richness of a natural heritage and the way,
generations after generations, the local population by a relentless work
made of it a cultural and national treasure which amply deserves to be
highlighted.
