Kim Cuc Observatory Tower
Quy Nhon, Binh Dinh, Vietnam
The Kim Cuc Observatory Tower is a notable landmark in the city of Quy Nhon and serves as the eastern terminus of the city, facing the statue of General Tran Hung Dao. The previously backfilled site will be transformed into a public pedestrian space, complete with remodeled landscaping to complement the curve of the bay. To further enhance the pedestrian experience, several fountains will be installed on the future esplanade, extending the existing long pedestrian promenade along the beach.
The location of the tower, with its proximity to the water and the mouth of the lagoon, is believed to symbolize wealth and prosperity. This is because it is considered to be an excellent source of Chi, particularly when the watercourse meanders and the current is slow. These characteristics allow the Chi to become established, bringing good fortune to those who are in its presence. The round shape of the tower circulates the energies and flows between the lagoon and the sea, and its orientation is not fixed in a single direction.
