Son Tay Ancient Citadel
Son Tay, Vietnam
Son Tay Ancient Citadel is not only a site of profound historical value but also an increasingly popular destination due to its unique architecture and cultural significance. The site preserves many traces of Vietnam’s resilient struggles, symbolizing the unwavering spirit, loyalty, and courage of its people in the face of foreign invasion. The design task focuses on creating an engaging and harmonious landscape that complements the existing architectural heritage of the citadel. The new landscape space aims to establish clearly defined functions that support sustainable tourism, catering to a broad range of visitors while promoting patriotism and the preservation of cultural heritage.
The landscape is organized to accommodate diverse programs and activities for all ages. Key functional areas include interactive playgrounds for children and multi-purpose spaces, encouraging both historical education and recreational use.Strategic layout planning ensures that major programs align with the visual axes of the four main citadel gates, forming invisible “pathways” that guide visitors naturally through the site. Carefully framed views toward green spaces and preserved areas enhance the experience, while maintaining a respectful balance between built elements and natural surroundings.
